Happy Birthday, 2001!

Did you know? Today, April 6 is the anniversary of the cinema premiere of Stanley Kubricks masterpiece "2001:A space odessey"? The movie first captivated audiences on April 6, 1968. It's amazing knowledge as it still seems as relevant and poignant as ever. Here's my way of paying tribute to the work of two late legends, Mr. Stanley Kubrick and Mr. Arthur C. Clarke, OBE. Today is the first day of "2001: A weeklong celebration" that will take place on this blog. To kick the show off, here is the original theatrical trailer for the movie:

Happy April fools!

It's April first and that means my cell phone carrier has launched an online music download service, that basically allows me to download as much music as I'd like for free. How's about that? Now, to figure it out....

And of course, an appropriate video to celebrate:

A Memory I

I remember being a kid on holiday with my parents and my sister in 1986. We were driving to Bibione in Italy, and from there we went on a day trip to Croatia.

I remember the border patrol guards wearing green uniforms and machine guns, asking my dad if he brought any goods that were eligble for customs. And then I remember being in this dripstone cave deep underground.

I remember freezing my legs, even though it was scolding hot on the surface. I remember sitting on a one-way track in a cart with my dad nuzzeling against him because I was scared about us hitting our heads. There was a sign above a tunnel that said "Duck" or something like that in Croatian and possibly German as well. It was crazy beautiful and dark and serene. I was wearing a knitted sweater.
