Curly Housewarming

I was invited to a housewarming at Curly Boy and Curly Girlies new pad last night. They were throwing it down because she got an invitation to go to Holland and apply for the Chaos Pilot thing. So who knows how long they're here for?

Got drunk, made out, went home. All in all, not too shabby. But I hate drinking and I hate hangovers.

Oh baby, baby....

She just keeps getting cuter all the time ;-)

Curious about George

Myself and friends were downtown today for a lucheon, and on our way back we passed Hotel Royal where a large crowd had gathered. A lady told us they were waiting for George Michael, and true enough, he came out the door right afterwards.

He's a short Greek man for sure.I bet he makes really good souvlaki.

"Moooooolitva....."

The ESC winners tour kicked of in a mall downtown earlier today, so I went down there to say congrats to the winner from Serbia, and to see and listen to the danish entry.

Not bad, but not great either. Always nice to see a woman in jeans and a man in a dress, just as God had intended ;-)

James & Me vs The City

so my friend and mentor, the cherry in my pie, my doc and friend james, aka the señor of the dinar invited me over forsome surfing on the web and a night on the town - I of course was game. Who would decline free spareribs and diet coke?

And look what he bought...... I'm LCD-coloured with envy. No, I'm actually happy for him. :-)

Dima looks like...

...so Dima Koldun has a great voice and has spent a big sum of money in the tanning salon. And yet people don't want him to win? That's the treatment you get when you represent the last european dictatorship, Belarus.

Bonus info: According to press material released on Dima, he is incredibly famous in Belarus for resembling the late Princess Diana. What an odd and disturbing thing to be famous for....?!??

An ESC quickie

With 42 participating countries i can totally forgive myself for not reserving the momentum to give an in-depth analysis of each and every song. So this will just be a run-through of a few nations I couldn't resist on commenting.

"Spain has sent 4 deodorant sticks to Helsinki this year." That's how Adam Hall described the Iberian entry and that about sums it up this year for Spain.

A boring and uninspired song from a spanish version of (insert boyband name of choice here).

Turkey is still riding strong on the whole mediterian pop meets oriental vibes-wave they created with Sertab Erener's victory in 2003.

Nothing wrong with "Shake it up Shekerim" as this years entry is called. But is that LEGO bricks on the singers shirt? WTF??!?

It didn't matter how enthusiastic the fans from the Czech Republic were, their song finished dead last in the semi-finals. 1 single point was all it got. Back to the drawing board, friends.

And it is indeed not a great year for Great Britain. The British Isles+neighbour deliver the two worst entries into the competition this year.

That's England and Ireland, and it's awful. Nuff said.

The Cyprus Recording

Next country I want to highlight is cyprus - this chica called Ευρυδίκη sings the song "Comme Ci, Comme Ça".

I would really like to take her out for a cup of tea and a talk some time, but she refuses to meet with me.

You know what time it is...

So the time of year has come, where musicfans rejoice like sportsfans do at the time of the world cup: I am of course referring to the Eurovision Song Contest. In the next couple of posts i'm gonna reflect on the talent mass, and what songs I think are worthy of attention.

I was lucky enough to meet a few of the artists prior to the competition. First up, the debuting nation of Georgia. Apparantly also a country, Georgia are participating in the contest with the country's most popular artist.

Here is the interview I conducted with Σόπο, the singer from Georgia prior to the contest.

Me: "Hello Σόπο, a pleasure to meet you. Are you excited about Georgia entering the european music scene?"

Σόπο: "Κατάφερε να."

Me: "I'm sorry, what was that?"

Σόπο: "Αργότερα αποφασίστηκε να αλλάξει ο τίτλος του σε Visionary dream".

Me: "What are you talking about? You're not making any sense? In English please?"

Σόπο: "Χώρες οι οποίες!!! δεν έλαβαν μέρος αλλά μεταδόθηκε, σε αυτές ο διαγωνισμός!!"

Me: "Is this some kind of cruel joke? Who put you up to this? What's going on?"

Σόπο: "Ελλάδα!"

Me: "You know what? I'm leaving... I ain't having this shit. Damn you, woman..."

(I get up and leave the room)

Greensburg, KS: F5+

The city of Greensburg, Kansas before the tornado, and after. 95% of the city is just.... gone.

If the sun dies, so do we

It's more than a movie. it's a revelation. I never understood what Moses felt when he did his heroic stuff in desert a long long time ago, and was told to feel guilty about that. I never did. Now I think I finally know how Moses felt. He felt like me in the theatre watching Sunshine.

It was the most real feeling I've had in a long time. Truth be told, it's kinda hard to feel alive in reality at the moment, so it's nice to feel something in the cinema.

May 4: A free country

So today marks the 62nd anniversary of the liberation of Denmark.

That's a long time ago, even though my grandparents remeber it like it was yesterday.

I guess when you've seen a World War, it stays with you. Even if Nazi Germany is a long gone memory, the people who were there still recall it vividly.

Like blinding off the windows at night. Even the Varnæs family had to do it.

Cheese Burger Supreme...

...my ass. Bad twin and I just went through the drive-thru at the local McD's and sampled these new burgers - and honestly....they ain't great. They've basicly just buffed up a standard cheese burger with some lettuce and jalapeños. Don't do it kids, it's the worst 90 bucks I've spent in a long time.
